NEWS FROM THE BOARD:

There will be no dues adjustment for the month of June.

We would like to thank Gary Kerns and Waterloo for donating the outdoor smoke receptacles for the club house and pro shop.

I’ve heard several comments/complaints about situations on the golf course that seem to be the result of a lack of etiquette by some of our golfing members.  I will use this space to remind our golfers what is expected of them while on the course.  For those of you who observe etiquette, please forgive me and use these suggestions as a reminder.  For those of you who have forgotten, or simply do not understand the principles of etiquette, use these suggestions to become more knowledgable of the game and to become better golfing members.

The USGA says the following about etiquette:  “Unlike many sports, golf is played, for the most part, without the supervision of a referee or umpire.  The game relies on the integrity of the individual to show consideration for other players and to abide by the Rules.  All players should conduct themselves in a disciplined manner, demonstrating courtesy and sportsmanship at all times, irrespective of how competitive they may be.  This is the spirit of the game of golf.  The overriding principle is that consideration should be shown to others on the course at all times.

With this said, there are a few etiquette practices that need to be mentioned so that our golfing members are mindful to give consideration to other players while on the course

1.  It is a group’s responsibility to keep up with the group in front.  If it loses a clear hole and it is delaying the group behind, it should invite the group behind to play through, irrespective of the number of players in that group.

2.  Players should be read to play as soon as it is their turn to play.  Slow play should not be tolerated.

3.  When teeing off on a hole other than #1, players should make sure they are not cutting in front of other players on the course.  Observe the hole behind where you intend to start your round of play.  If someone is playing that hole, please go somewhere else to begin your round.

4.  Players should avoid causing damage to the course.  A cart should never be closer than 30 feet from a green unless on a cart path, nor should members park in the middle of our driving range teeing ground.  Also all ball marks and divots should be repaired.

Visit www.usga.org for more information about etiquette and to our Golfers, please be mindful of these common sense etiquette reminders.  As the year progresses and other complaints are voiced, you may see them printed here as reminders.
