NEWS FROM THE BOARD: The full time equivalent membership count is 184. There will be no dues adjustment for May. Draw Down is Friday, May 4. If you don’t have your ticket yet, contact a Board member. May is the time of year when things really begin to move at the club. Golf leagues are in full swing, tournaments start, the pool opens, happy hours are a time of good fellowship and our restaurant is serving many good meals. An increase in activity is noticeable everywhere you turn. I want to thank each of you for remaining in the club. Your support is the most important asset we have. Your membership is what keeps our club stable and we hope you always find plenty of things to do that are recreational to you. The Board welcomes any suggestion to make our club better. Now is the time to become active and I encourage each of you to enjoy the amenities your club offers. This year we have an active course committee and we are excited about our golf course. The committee consists of Chris Couch, Ron Mangold, N. Ray Campbell, Carol Kerns, Jason Nier and Jeff Archer. We have been meeting every three weeks since February. We are actively trying to improve our course through more efficient maintenance techniques, watering strategies and chemical applications. The greens are our primary focus as most golfers want to see this. This spring we have actively verticut, aerified and topdressed our greens and will now begin rolling them and pushing our mowing heights down a little. We hope to achieve a smoother rolling, firmer green in the coming months. The freeze stunted our Bermuda fairways but they are on their way to greening out. We will be watering the fairways more than in the past so that our grass benefits totally from the fertilizer applications. We also will be poisoning the roughs to eliminate the broadleaf grasses. Our hope is that the grasses will thicken and grow more and require less cutting with the broadleaf grasses gone. Also, there has been some tree trimming and tree removal which should help turf growth and eliminate hazards to our equipment such as gumballs and the like. We must be patient with Mother Nature, but we hope by mid-summer our golf course will be in excellent condition from tee to green. If anyone has a gasoline cart that they would like to either donate or sell to the club for a reasonable price, we need one. When the days become hotter and our crew starts hosing the greens, we’ll need this cart to haul around the hose. We are one cart short going into this season and we need someone to help us. We need a gasoline cart due to the numerous rounds per day it will have to make for hosing the greens. A battery cart might not last. If you would like to help us, contact Jeff with the information or someone on the course committee. We would like to thank Mick Warden for spending a number of hours trimming the trees lining the main drive to the club house. This was really needed and they are looking much better. It is an honor to serve Rolling Hills Country Club as your president. Jason Nier
